Student assistant (HiWi) in the field of photonics/fiber optic sensor technology, bachelor’s degree level or higher

To support our photonics laboratory, we are looking for a student assistant to assist us with practical laboratory work and the development and implementation of experimental setups.

Tasks

  • The area of responsibility could include, among other things:
  • Organization and optimization of the laboratory
  • Setup, conversion, and adjustment of optical systems
  • Support with experimental work in the field of fiber optic sensor technology
  • Programming for controlling measuring devices, especially with Python
  • Microcontroller programming (e.g., Arduino, STM32, or comparable)
  • Designing printed circuit boards (circuit diagram and layout)
  • Mechanical design of simple components and assemblies in CAD
  • General support activities in laboratory operations

Profile

  • Current bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, computer science, physics, or a related field
  • Interest in experimental work and the practical implementation of technical issues
  • Initial experience in some of the following areas is desirable:
    • Optics / photonics / fiber optics
    • Python programming
    • Microcontroller programming
    • CAD design
    • PCB design
  • Independent, reliable, and structured way of working
  • A certain degree of manual dexterity and organizational skills
  • Willingness to familiarize yourself with new topics and take on responsibility independently
