{"id":311,"date":"2026-01-27T09:08:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T08:08:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lhft.tf.fau.de\/?page_id=311"},"modified":"2026-01-27T16:38:24","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T15:38:24","slug":"profil","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.lhft.tf.fau.de\/en\/ueber-uns\/profil\/","title":{"rendered":"Profile"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Since its inception fifty years ago at the University of Erlangen, Germany, the Institute of Microwaves and Photonics (LHFT) has become a worldclass center for microwave research and scholarship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Electrical engineering as applied to <strong>microwaves und millimeter waves<\/strong> through the <strong>Terahertz (THz)<\/strong> range and on up to <strong>photonics \/ laser systems<\/strong> are at the focus of teaching and research at LHFT. On the hardware and systems side, the academic staff at LHFT deal with the entire spectrum from <strong>component level<\/strong>, through <strong>submodules<\/strong> up to <strong>fully integrated systems<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The research projects at LHFT are at the heart of many new developments and applications in the fields of <strong>medicine<\/strong>, <strong>transportation and traffic<\/strong>, <strong>residential systems<\/strong> and <strong>commercial enterprises<\/strong>. <strong>Imaging radar<\/strong>, <strong>broadband networks<\/strong>, <strong>wireless tracking systems<\/strong>, <strong>wireless sensors<\/strong>, <strong>RFID<\/strong> and <strong>photonics systems<\/strong> as developed at LHFT, are technologies we all come across in our daily lives. They are critical in medical diagnostics and therapies; they make the roads safer; they are used in smart materials and structures; they help navigate driverless vehicles; they are key to optimizing processes and to saving resources, time and energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We want students to gain an insight into these key technologies and to acquire the skills needed to make best use of them. Working closely with partners in <strong>business<\/strong> and in other <strong>research institutions<\/strong>, we want to push on with stand-out <strong>fundamental research<\/strong> and <strong>exhilarating new products<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are very proud of our 1,000 first degree and master degree candidates; some 50 doctorate candidates; more than 750 publications; and over 100 patents.
